About Updraft Extensions

Updraft Extensions produces CloudFormation extensions for AWS platform teams. Our extensions behave like native resource types — declare them in a template and they participate in the same stack lifecycle your team already manages.

The problem we solve

CloudFormation’s resource model is well understood: declare what you need and the stack manages the create, update, and delete lifecycle. In practice, built-in resource types stop short of what real infrastructure requires.

Teams fill the gaps with custom resources, Lambda-backed lookup functions, pipeline preprocessing, and orchestration glue — each one a bespoke system that must be maintained alongside the infrastructure it was supposed to simplify.

Updraft Extensions closes those gaps with professionally maintained, installable primitives that work inside CloudFormation’s resource model, not around it.

What we build

  • Data lookups — retrieve SSM parameters, Secrets Manager values, and account metadata at stack evaluation time, without Lambda-backed custom resources
  • Secure generation — generate credentials, tokens, and identifiers with correct stack lifecycle semantics: created when the stack creates them, removed when the stack removes them
  • Orchestration primitives — express sequencing and conditional logic inside CloudFormation without external pipeline tooling or state machines
  • Cross-account access — reference and provision resources across AWS accounts and regions within the CloudFormation resource model

Our commitment

Extensions are a commercial product. Licensing funds maintenance, compatibility testing with new CloudFormation and AWS releases, and long-term support. An extension that enters your infrastructure vocabulary should still work correctly when AWS updates the underlying service — that durability is what we build toward.
